Florida Rises to No. 2 in College Basketball Rankings Following Alabama's Loss to Auburn
Auburn strengthens its position at the top while Florida climbs and Alabama drops in the latest AP Top 25 poll.
Auburn solidified its hold on the No. 1 spot in the AP Top 25 poll with a road win on Saturday against the then-No. 2 Alabama. The Tigers, whose unanimous No. 1 status ended last week after a three-poll stint, earned all but one first-place vote to near unanimous status once again, with Florida earning that final first-place vote.
The Gators rose to No. 2, their highest mark in the AP poll since 2014, after beating Auburn a week ago and going on to defeat Mississippi State and South Carolina this week. Meanwhile, last week’s No. 2, Alabama, dropped two spots to No. 4 after a 94-85 home loss to Auburn.
This week once again highlights the SEC’s dominance in college basketball, with the league boasting a nation-leading nine teams in the poll led by three of the top four and five in the top ten. Duke’s ranking reaches a streak of 11 weeks in the top five, affirming its standing following a consistent performance against other ranked teams.
