UFC 314: Ilia Topuria Steps Down as Featherweight Champion, Volkanovski and Lopes to Compete for Title

UFC CEO Dana White announces a fight for the vacant featherweight title between Alexander Volkanovski and Diego Lopes after Ilia Topuria vacates the championship.

UFC 314 will see Alexander Volkanovski challenge Diego Lopes for the vacant featherweight title following Ilia Topuria’s decision to vacate the belt. The event, slated for April 12, marks UFC’s return to Miami. Topuria, after his victory over Max Holloway in October, is set to shift to the lightweight division. Volkanovski (26-4) had taken a break from fighting after suffering knockouts in his previous bouts against Topuria and Islam Makhachev. Meanwhile, Lopes (26-6) comes into the title fight on a 5-fight winning streak, the latest being a win against Brian Ortega.

Moreover, a high-profile lightweight bout between Michael Chandler and Paddy Pimblett, along with the debut of Bellator star Patricio Pitbull against former featherweight champion Yair Rodriguez, have also been confirmed for UFC 314. Other notable matches include Geoff Neal clashing with Carlos Prates and Nikita Krylov facing Dominick Reyes.

UFC 314 will take place at the Kaseya Center in Miami.
