Showcasing USWNT's Emerging Talent: Yohannes, Macario, and Sentnor Excel in SheBelieves Opening Match

The young and versatile US women's national team shines in their recent SheBelieves Cup opener while key players recuperate from injuries.

The U.S. women’s national team kicked off the SheBelieves Cup with a 2-0 victory against Colombia, showcasing their youthful talent in the absence of several core players. Highlighting the match was 17-year-old Lily Yohannes, who impressed in the midfield alongside Lindsey Heaps and Sam Coffey.

Yohannes, who recently committed to the USWNT after her debut in June, received praise from coach Emma Hayes for her maturity on the field. “She plays beyond her years at times,” Hayes commented, emphasizing the player’s ongoing development since joining the national team setup.

Catarina Macario scored the first goal of the match, marking her return to the national team after an ACL injury sidelined her for a significant period. Expressing her gratitude for being back on the pitch, Macario explained, “Definitely not easy… Probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life.”

Ally Sentnor closed the scoring, netting an impressive goal from outside the box, continuing her trend of scoring long-range goals. The team is currently preparing for their next matches against Australia and Japan, aiming to clinch the SheBelieves Cup title.
