Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Leads 2024-25 NBA MVP Race
The NBA MVP odds reveal Shai Gilgeous-Alexander as the current frontrunner, overtaking Nikola Jokic and others in the race for the prestigious award.
The NBA season is heating up, and it’s time to explore the MVP market for the regular season.
As the recipient of the NBA’s most prestigious award in three of the last four years, Nikola Jokic aims to make history by winning four out of five seasons.
Celtics legend Bill Russell accomplished this from 1960-61 to 1964-65, as did LeBron James from 2008-09 to 2012-13.
These two stand as the only individuals to achieve this in NBA history.
Currently, Jokic, who opened the season with +400 odds to win the MVP, ranks in the top four league-wide for points, rebounds, and assists.
Current NBA MVP Odds (as of January 13):
- Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: -190 (bet $10 to win $15.26 total)
- Nikola Jokic: +165 (bet $10 to win $26.50 total)
- Giannis Antetokounmpo: +2200 (bet $10 to win $230 total)
- Jayson Tatum: +3000 (bet $10 to win $310 total)
Is the MVP race starting to narrow down to two main contenders?
As of January 13, Jokic averages 31.2 points (3rd), 13.2 rebounds (3rd), and 9.8 assists (2nd), shooting 55.4% from the field and 47.1% from three-point range.
However, despite these impressive statistics, he has fallen behind, with Gilgeous-Alexander now leading the race.
As of the same date, SGA’s Thunder boast a record of 32-6, the second-best in the NBA, having won 17 of their last 18 games.
Gilgeous-Alexander stands 3rd in points per game (31.4) and is a top performer in steals (2).
