Top Trade Destinations for Pelicans' Star Brandon Ingram

Analyzing potential trade scenarios for New Orleans Pelicans' All-Star Brandon Ingram ahead of the NBA trade deadline.

Brandon Ingram’s tenure with the New Orleans Pelicans seems to be nearing its end. The question now is if this transition will occur before the NBA trade deadline on February 6 or if it will take place during free agency.

Currently, Ingram, who is 27 years old, is in the last year of his five-year, $158 million contract. It looks doubtful that he will agree to an extension with the Pelicans. Notably, he has only played 18 games this season due to injuries affecting his calf and ankle. Throughout his six years in New Orleans, Ingram has struggled to compete in more than 64 games per season due to several issues, including knee and Achilles problems.

Despite these setbacks, Ingram remains a formidable scorer in his prime, with averages of 23.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game while shooting 37.2% from three-point territory over the past six seasons. His versatile scoring ability allows him to score off the dribble, absorb physical play, and make efficient shots.

Below are the top three trade options for Ingram if the Pelicans decide to make a move before the deadline:

3. Chicago Bulls

The Bulls find themselves caught in a challenging position. They are competitive enough to vie for a spot in the Play-In Tournament but not poor enough to secure a high pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. Nonetheless, Chicago has signaled its intention to remain competitive by retaining key players like Zach LaVine, Nikola Vucevic, and Coby White.

Bringing Ingram into the mix could elevate their offensive game, particularly with LaVine as another scoring option alongside him. This duo, along with White, could form a potent scoring trio.

2. Los Angeles Lakers

Under the leadership of first-time head coach JJ Redick, the Lakers are performing respectably at 20-16 but are striving to avoid another stint in the Play-In Tournament. Players like Anthony Davis and LeBron James continue to perform at a high level, and adding Ingram could significantly enhance their offensive capabilities during the playoffs.

The Lakers could offer players like Rui Hachimura, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Gabe Vincent to secure Ingram, which would not only bolster their current team but also prepare them for a future without James.

1. San Antonio Spurs

This season, the Spurs have shown significant improvement. Acquiring Ingram could solidify their progress and position them for further success in the future. With stars like Victor Wembanyama and solid contributors like Keldon Johnson and Devin Vassell, Ingram could mesh well with this young core and provide necessary scoring when needed.

Ingram’s contract timeline aligns perfectly with that of the Spurs, establishing him as a veteran presence for an emerging team capable of contention in the Western Conference by the next couple of seasons.
