Ovechkin's Race Against Gretzky: Tracking His Goal Milestones

Alex Ovechkin is moving closer to Wayne Gretzky's all-time goal record, needing just a few more goals to surpass it. Will he achieve this feat before the end of the season?

Alex Ovechkin currently stands as one of the most celebrated figures in NHL history, aiming to eclipse Wayne Gretzky’s long-standing record of 894 career goals. With a total of 882 goals, Ovechkin is just 13 away from breaking this significant milestone before the season concludes.

In his last game, the Capitals’ star achieved a hat trick against the Edmonton Oilers, advancing his career tally and proving that he can reach Gretzky’s record this season, with 25 matches still remaining.

Throughout the current season, Ovechkin has demonstrated a more solid goal-scoring performance compared to the previous year, where he only netted five goals at the start of the campaign.

As the season progresses, CBS Sports will maintain ongoing updates on Ovechkin’s pursuit of Gretzky’s remarkable career record. Stay tuned!
