Sixers Confirm Rookie Jared McCain Out for Season After Knee Surgery
Rookie Jared McCain is ruled out for the season following surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee.
Rookie Jared McCain of the Philadelphia 76ers will be sidelined for the remainder of the season after undergoing left knee surgery last month to repair a torn meniscus.
At just 20 years old, McCain was a standout player, averaging 15.3 points over 23 appearances this season. Originally drafted as the 24th pick in the 2024 draft, he quickly became a fan favorite, not only for his performance on the court but also due to his massive following on social media, especially TikTok.
Despite a promising start, he began experiencing knee issues after a game on December 13 against Indiana. McCain was recognized as the Eastern Conference’s rookie of the month for November and had showcased impressive performances, including a career-high 34 points in a mid-November game against Cleveland.
Injuries have plagued the 76ers, limiting key players including Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George to only three combined appearances on the court together. With a record of 15-20, the Sixers are struggling this season as they aim to turn things around without their star players.
Embiid (left foot sprain) and Drummond (left toe sprain), along with Lowry (right hip strain) and Martin (left foot), will miss the next game against New Orleans, while George is considered likely to play despite a groin injury.
