Eagles May Target Myles Garrett: A Potential Trade Threat

Philadelphia could look to acquire the Browns' star player if certain conditions unfold.

The Philadelphia Eagles have interest in enhancing their pass rush this offseason, especially with Josh Sweat and Milton Williams potentially hitting free agency.

If they aim for a significant addition, they may pursue the disgruntled star of the Cleveland Browns, Myles Garrett.

According to ESPN, the Eagles are in the market for a pass rusher since Sweat could end up with a different team after free agency.

The Eagles are reportedly concerned about potentially seeing Garrett join the Washington Commanders, which could drive up the asking price.

The Cleveland Browns are maintaining a firm stance against trading Garrett, stating a definitive “hard no”. Garrett is expected to be a free agent after the 2026 season and still has two remaining years on his five-year, $125 million contract.

The Eagles require some reinforcements in the pass rush considering the uncertain future of key players like Sweat, Williams, and Brandon Graham who may retire soon. As it stands, the only available players for pass rushing on the roster are Nolan Smith, Jalyx Hunt, and Bryce Huff, with Huff being a healthy scratch for the Super Bowl LIX win against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Garrett, a four-time All-Pro, recorded 83 pressures, 14.5 sacks, and 28 hits on quarterbacks last season, with a pressure rate of 18.4%. He stands third in career sacks before turning 30, trailing only Reggie White and Jared Allen.

Garrett also made history as the first player to achieve 14+ sacks in four consecutive seasons and is one of two players to have 12+ sacks in five straight seasons, alongside Lawrence Taylor.

The Commanders are anticipated to join in the chase for Garrett, particularly if they decide to trade or release Jonathan Allen, saving nearly $17 million in cap space. With $82.2 million already available in cap space this offseason, acquiring Garrett would not pose financial constraints for Washington.
