Bengals' Ja'Marr Chase Set to Become NFL's Highest-Paid Non-Quarterback Amidst Contract Negotiations

A look into the Bengals' preparations to reward Ja'Marr Chase while addressing Tee Higgins' contract status.

The Cincinnati Bengals are preparing to allocate significant funds this offseason as wide receiver Tee Higgins, wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, and edge rusher Trey Hendrickson are all in line for new contracts.

Higgins, labeled as the top pending wide receiver free agent for the 2025 offseason, was franchise-tagged last year, but the Bengals are aiming to avoid that situation again this offseason. “I think Tee Higgins is a fantastic football player, and I want him on my team,” said Bengals director of player personnel Duke Tobin. He further remarked, “We want to re-sign these guys, reward them for their ability, and enhance the football team. It’s a tall task, but we believe we can tackle it.”

Chase, who led the NFL in receptions (127), receiving yards (1,708), and touchdowns (17) in 2024, is set to become the league’s highest-paid non-quarterback. This will likely involve contracts that surpass Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson’s four-year, $140 million deal ($35 million annually).

Currently, Chase is playing the last year of his rookie contract on the fifth-year option. Tobin confirmed, “He’s going to end up being the No. 1-paid non-quarterback in the league. We’re there to make it happen.”

Tobin also reiterated the team’s desire for a long-term agreement with Higgins and acknowledged Hendrickson’s outstanding performance last season after leading the league with 17.5 sacks.
