JuJu Watkins: Continuing a Family Legacy of Giving in Los Angeles

USC's JuJu Watkins, a rising star in women's basketball, embodies her family's philanthropic legacy while excelling on the court.

USC guard JuJu Watkins has elevated a Trojans program reminiscent of its success in the ’90s. However, basketball is just one avenue through which she influences the Los Angeles community.

When asked about her interests, Watkins often highlights her community work instead of her impressive shoe collection or iconic hairstyle. “I think there are many layers to me,” she shared. “I’m very active in the community. I run a non-profit that supports local initiatives. From a philanthropic standpoint, I strive to engage as much as possible.”

Watkins’ dedication to giving back extends beyond basketball; she actively helps those in need. Recently, she provided support to student athletes affected by the Los Angeles fires by donating backpacks and hygiene products.

“Don’t Move… Improve” has been a guiding principle in her family for generations. This motto encapsulates JuJu’s commitment to energizing her community just as her ancestors did.

JuJu’s great grandfather, Ted, fled Mississippi amidst threats of racial violence and settled in Los Angeles. He founded the Watts Labor Community Action Committee to fight poverty and uplift others. His lifetime of dedication to improvement has inspired JuJu.

As she continues to make an impact on and off the court, JuJu emphasizes the importance of her family legacy and her commitment to utilizing her platform for greater causes beyond basketball.
