Travis Hunter: Will He Shine as a WR or CB? NFL Teams Share Insights on This Potential Top Draft Pick

Discussion around Travis Hunter's dual positioning as a potential wide receiver and cornerback in the upcoming NFL draft.

One of the biggest questions from the NFL Scouting Combine is which position Travis Hunter will play at the next level. In addition to winning the Heisman Trophy in 2024, the former Colorado standout was the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and the recipient of the Fred Biletnikoff Award, which is given annually to college football’s best receiver.

When asked about Hunter and his possible NFL trajectory, Titans head coach Brian Callahan stated that he “probably starts at corner, and then you find ways to inject him in the offense as he gets more comfortable.” Conversely, Browns general manager Andrew Berry views Hunter as a receiver first but believes he can also excel at cornerback.

Another team with a top-five draft pick appears open to Hunter getting significant time at both positions, similarly to how he was utilized in college.

“He’s unique and instinctive at both positions, so I think there’s a scenario where he could excel at one and also contribute at the other,” commented Patriots executive vice president Eliot Wolf.

When discussing Hunter’s potential, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski drew parallels to Pro Football Hall of Famer Chuck Bednarik, who was famed for his adeptness at both center and linebacker during his career.

Hunter stands out as a player who can make an impact at multiple roles, similar to the historical precedents set by dual-role players like Deion Sanders, who made waves both defensively and offensively in the NFL.

As teams weigh in on Hunter, it remains to be seen how they will utilize his talents, but there’s no doubt he will leave his mark on whichever position he plays.
