Tyler Shough (pronounced “shuck”) was a four-star prospect out of Hamilton High School in Chandler, Arizona. Recruited from big-time programs including Cal, Arizona State, and Alabama, Shough chose Oregon knowing he would sit behind Justin Herbert for a few seasons.
By his sophomore year in 2020, Shough started every game but didn’t finish his last two, ending with a bowl-game loss against Iowa State. After transferring to Texas Tech and later Louisville, he achieved career highs despite battling injuries.
The stats might sound decent, but they pale in comparison to other top quarterback prospects. Shough has seen his per-pass averages slide during his time at Texas Tech but improved his statistics while at Louisville. In 12 games, he completed 62.7% of 389 passes for 3,195 yards, with 23 touchdowns and six interceptions.
Injuries have been a significant concern for Shough, who has struggled with mobility and consistency. Despite his seven years in college, his age might be a red flag for NFL teams considering him as a prospect.
Shough will have the opportunity to showcase his skills at the NFL Combine, where his performance could significantly impact his draft stock.
