Jonathan Kuminga of Warriors Faces Three-Week Recovery from Ankle Injury
Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga has injured his right ankle and will be sidelined for at least three weeks.
The Golden State Warriors’ forward Jonathan Kuminga sustained a right ankle injury during a match against the Memphis Grizzlies last Saturday, which will keep him off the court for at least three weeks.
Kuminga, who was the Warriors’ second-highest scorer, suffered the injury while attempting to block a shot late in the first half and will undergo an MRI examination to assess the damage.
Coach Steve Kerr mentioned that Kyle Anderson will see increased playing time while Kuminga is sidelined, noting, “It’s not going to be a day-to-day thing, it was a significant sprain. We’ll have a report tomorrow.”
Before his injury, Kuminga averaged 16.9 points, but managed only 13 points in 15 minutes during the game. Kerr expressed, “It’s going to be tough. JK’s been playing the best basketball of his career these last couple weeks, so we’re going to miss him. But Kyle will fill in well.”
Kyle Anderson, who joined the court during Kuminga’s absence, is ready to step up, having averaged significantly fewer minutes prior. “I’ve done my work already while not playing as far as working out and staying ready,” Anderson stated. “The goal is to keep getting better and support my teammates.”
With ongoing injuries this season, Kerr is relieved for the depth in their roster, saying, “We added a lot of depth for this reason, to be able to withstand some injuries.”
