AJ Allmendinger's Road Racing Potential at Circuit of the Americas
Prior to the COTA race, AJ Allmendinger discusses his chances and the season ahead.
With only a couple of races completed this season, there are still many opportunities ahead for drivers in the NASCAR Cup Series. AJ Allmendinger, who thrives in road racing, reflects on his potential this weekend at Circuit of the Americas (COTA).
Allmendinger has enjoyed a successful career, transitioning from open-wheel to stock car racing. Since joining Kaulig Racing, he has seen a sharp rise in his Xfinity Series victories, totaling 18 wins. He has also competed in the Cup Series, achieving two wins since returning in 2021.
This year, Allmendinger has his eyes on COTA, which marks the first road course race of the season. Given his experience with the track, where he has had success in the past, Allmendinger is excited about the possibility of securing a win that would elevate his status in the championship standings.
AJ emphasizes, “We have to focus on making the playoffs, but it requires performance on the track. I’m excited for COTA, but we have to take it one race at a time.” He recognizes the growing competition in road racing, which makes each victory even more significant.
Overall, Allmendinger is optimistic about the improvements made within his team this year, especially under the guidance of new technical director Mike Cook, who is enhancing their racing strategies.
“The focus on road courses is critical for our success,” Allmendinger noted, elaborating on their preparations leading up to this weekend. The upcoming race at COTA presents a critical chance for him and his team to make an early mark in the season.
