Miami Heat Suspend Star Player Jimmy Butler for Seven Games Amid Trade Talks
The Miami Heat have announced the suspension of Jimmy Butler for seven games due to multiple conduct-related issues.
The Miami Heat have suspended Jimmy Butler for seven games due to “multiple instances of conduct detrimental to the team,” as the team stated in an announcement on Friday.
“We have suspended Jimmy Butler for seven games for multiple instances of conduct detrimental to the team over the course of the season and particularly the last several weeks,” the statement read.
The decision comes after Butler expressed he could not find “joy” in Miami anymore, alongside reports that he would prefer to play “anywhere” other than the Heat.
“Through his actions and statements, he has shown he no longer wants to be part of this team,” added the statement. “Jimmy Butler and his representative have indicated that they wish to be traded, therefore, we will listen to offers.”
Pat Riley, the Heat’s president, had previously stated that Butler wouldn’t be traded, but Butler’s public frustration seems to have prompted the organization to reconsider.
Butler, 35, has been averaging 17.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game this season.
The Heat are currently sitting at sixth place in the Eastern Conference.
