Fantasy Football Today: 2025 Draft Strategies for Breakout Running Backs
An in-depth look at potential breakout running backs for the upcoming NFL season and drafting strategies for fantasy players.
As the 2025 offseason approaches, the FFT team analyzes the top performers from the second half of the 2024 season. The question on everyone’s mind is whether these breakouts will sustain their performance in 2025 and how to approach drafting them in fantasy leagues.
Chase Brown
Brown was a standout RB during the second half of last season, ranking as the RB6 in both half and full-point PPR leagues. His breakout was mainly spurred by increasing opportunities following Zack Moss’s injury. The Bengals’ offensive performance skyrocketed with Brown as the lead back. If production from Weeks 9-17 were extrapolated to a full season, we could see him achieving nearly 2,000 total yards and over a dozen touchdowns.
Bucky Irving
Irving emerged as a pivotal player, leading his team with impressive rushing stats similar to those of 2023’s breakout, De’Von Achane. If the Buccaneers continue to lean on Irving, he may redefine their rushing attack in 2025. Both players are expected to be top draft targets in this year’s fantasy drafts.
