Joel Embiid's Season Concluded Due to Persistent Knee Injury
Joel Embiid, the All-Star center for the Philadelphia 76ers, will not return this season after a left knee injury sidelines him for the remainder of the campaign.
Joel Embiid’s season is officially over. The Philadelphia 76ers declared on Friday that their All-Star center would be sidelined for the entirety of the season due to a persistent left knee injury that has prevented him from participating in 40 games this year.
A comprehensive treatment strategy has yet to be established, but further evaluations are planned to determine the next steps.
Throughout this season, Embiid made 19 appearances, averaging 23.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game. In September 2024, he signed a significant three-year, $193 million contract extension set to pay him an average of $64.3 million annually through the end of the 2028-29 season.
Currently, the Sixers stand 12th in the Eastern Conference with a record of 20-38, although they are close to qualifying for the Play-In Tournament, sitting just 2.5 games behind the No. 10 seed.
