Amen Thompson and Terry Rozier Receive Suspensions After Rockets vs. Heat Altercation
Amen Thompson and Terry Rozier face suspensions following their involvement in a brawl during the recent Rockets-Heat game.
The NBA has handed down suspensions to Houston’s Amen Thompson and Miami’s Terry Rozier due to their involvement in a physical altercation during the closing moments of the Rockets-Heat game on Sunday night. Thompson will miss two games, while Rozier faces a one-game suspension.
The league also assigned a collective $145,000 in fines related to the incident. Coach Ime Udoka of the Rockets is fined $50,000 for verbally confronting an official and failing to exit the court promptly. Meanwhile, Jalen Green of the Rockets received a $35,000 fine, and Tyler Herro of the Heat was fined $25,000.
In a previous scuffle just prior to the main fracas, Fred VanVleet was also fined $35,000 for an incident involving referee Marc Davis.
As a result of their suspensions, Rozier will forfeit approximately $143,242 from his salary, while Thompson will lose around $127,586.
The game’s final minute was chaotic, featuring seven ejections: VanVleet, Thompson, Rozier, Udoka, and several players from both teams, including Green and Herro. VanVleet’s ejection was the initial spark, following contact with Davis.
Things escalated quickly when Thompson tackled Herro after a verbal exchange. Rozier soon entered the mix, leading to widespread pushing and shouting among players from both sides.
Herro led all scorers with 27 points, adding nine assists and six rebounds, and mentioned post-game that he believed Thompson was frustrated.
“Guess that’s what happens when someone’s scoring, throwing dimes, doing the whole thing. I’d get mad, too,” Herro noted after the game.
The Heat managed to secure a 104-100 victory, overcoming a 19-5 run late in the game to defeat the Rockets after trailing by as many as 12 points earlier.
“I think they lost control of their feelings when the game started turning in our favor,” Herro stated. “The ejection of VanVleet and sideline complaints towards the referees contributed to their frustration.”
Herro did sustain a bruise from his fall but is projected to play on Wednesday against the Pelicans.
