Xavier Worthy Responds to Texas Players' Challenge on His 40-Yard Dash Record

Xavier Worthy, the former Texas wide receiver, reacts to claims from other players aspiring to break his 40-yard dash record set last year.

Former Texas Longhorns wide receiver and Kansas City Chiefs first-round pick Xavier Worthy ran a 4.21-second 40-yard dash a year ago, breaking the NFL Scouting Combine record that John Ross set in 2017 (4.22 seconds).

Just one year later, another Texas player, Isaiah Bond, confidently claimed he could break Worthy’s record:

“I’m going to break the record tomorrow, for sure,” Isaiah Bond said on Friday. “I anticipate running a 4.20 or possibly if I’m feeling great I might run a 4.1.”

Bond wasn’t alone in his quest to break the record; teammate Jaydon Blue echoed a similar sentiment, indicating workouts with Worthy leading up to his record-setting sprint.

“I think I’ll break the 40 record … 4.1 or 4.20,” Blue said on Friday via The Athletic.

Both Blue (4.38 seconds) and Bond (4.39 seconds) ended up falling short of Worthy’s benchmark. In response, Worthy took to Instagram to address both players:

“Respect those who come before you.”

Interestingly, the fastest Texas Longhorn of the day was Matthew Golden, who clocked in at 4.29 seconds, showcasing impressive speed despite neither Bond nor Blue managing to break the historic record.
