Major League Baseball (MLB) Commissioner Rob Manfred is currently reviewing a petition that has been submitted by the family of the late Pete Rose, seeking his reinstatement to the league. If successful, this move may also allow Rose, known as the all-time hits leader, to be considered for the National Baseball Hall of Fame. The request comes shortly after Rose’s passing last September.
Rose was placed on the permanently ineligible list in 1989 due to gambling, and any hope of Hall of Fame inclusion has remained dormant since a rule was enacted two years later, preventing those on the ineligible list from being inducted.
Previously, Rose admitted to betting on baseball, although he spent many years denying the allegations. This petition holds significance, especially considering a recent statement from Trump, who expressed intentions to pardon Rose while supporting his reinstatement to MLB and Hall of Fame election.
As a reminder, in his career, Rose achieved a record of 4,256 hits over 24 major league seasons, mostly with the Cincinnati Reds.
