Ryan Peake's Journey from Gang Member to Golf Champion

Ryan Peake transforms his life after winning the New Zealand Open and earning a spot in the 2025 Open at Royal Portrush.

Ryan Peake’s life has undergone a significant transformation after his dramatic victory at the 2025 New Zealand Open, earning him a coveted spot in the 2025 Open at Royal Portrush. His victory was sealed with an 8-foot par putt on the final hole that allowed him to avoid a four-way playoff against notable competitors.

“I’ve just changed my life,” Peake said, fighting back tears. “This is what I do. I want to be here and just play golf. My story is what it is…”
Translation: “My life has changed significantly. I want to pursue my passion for golf. My story is unique, but I am dedicated to the sport.”

Despite his early passion for golf, Peake’s path took a dark turn as he joined the infamous Rebels motorcycle gang in Australia, leading to a five-year sentence for assault.

Peake’s journey back to golf began with his reinstatement as a player, where he regained his Australasian tour card in 2024-25. This recent win opens doors for him, including membership in the Asian Tour and potential opportunities with the DP World Tour.

“It’s life-changing; this morning, I woke up four shots behind… now I’m a member of the Asian Tour, an Australian Tour winner…”
Translation: “This victory has drastically changed my life, shifting my position from underdog to an accomplished golfer in the Asian Tour.”

The win came after a final-round performance that showcased Peake’s skills, overcoming a late-game deficit against the leader. Peake’s journey illustrates resilience and the power of personal redemption.
