During the NFL Scouting Combine, the Los Angeles Rams gave Jonah Jackson permission to seek a trade and a deal has come to fruition. According to ESPN, the Rams have traded the offensive guard to the Chicago Bears in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round pick.
Jackson will leave Los Angeles after just one season, during which he was not very active due to injuries and lack of playtime. The 28-year-old signed a three-year, $51 million contract with the Rams in March 2024, but only started four games. Previously, Jackson played for the Detroit Lions where he was selected in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft and made it to the Pro Bowl by his second season.

- Bears get: OL Jonah Jackson
- Rams get: 2025 sixth-round pick
Grades
Bears: A-
This trade is a strategic move for the Bears as they notably need reinforcement on the offensive line after a demanding season where Caleb Williams faced numerous sacks. Jackson’s versatility to play guard or center adds depth to their lineup, especially with their guards and center facing free agency. Notably, he reunites with Ben Johnson, who has firsthand knowledge of his abilities.
Rams: D
While the Rams acquired a draft pick for a player likely to be cut, the financial repercussions include paying Jackson $25.5 million for a single season. The Rams will face an $11.3 million dead cap hit but achieve some cap savings.
