JJ Watt's Return to NFL Stalled by Goalkeeper's Streak

JJ Watt officially announces he won't return to play for the Bengals, dispelling any hopes sparked by a bet with a goalkeeper.

It’s now confirmed; JJ Watt will not be making a comeback in the NFL. After discussions over a wager with James Trafford, a goalkeeper and dedicated Cincinnati Bengals fan, any prospects of his return have evaporated.

The wager involved Watt and Trafford, who are co-owners of the Burnley FC soccer team, now competing in the Championship division.

In December, Trafford playfully prompted Watt about potential return to the Bengals, responding with a light-hearted challenge: if Trafford could maintain a clean sheet for the entire EFL season, Watt would don the Bengals’ jersey again.

In a twist, Trafford managed to string together an impressive series of shutouts, raising the stakes of their bet. However, his streak ended when an opponent scored on March 4, preventing Watt from coming out of retirement.

During the interview on “The Dan Patrick Show”, Watt mentioned, “I would definitely consider coming out of retirement. If he (Trafford) achieves the impossible, I’d be ready to play.” This sentiment echoed as Watt admired Trafford’s impressive performance.

Watt’s humorous remarks and the unexpected challenge made for an entertaining saga, yet ultimately, the goalkeeping challenge concluded without Watt stepping back onto the field.
