The Texas Longhorns are ranked No. 1 for the first time in nearly two decades, prompting discussions on maintaining their competitive edge as they head into the postseason.
Texas Longhorns’ Coach Schaefer on Championship Goals
When Texas earned its first No. 1 ranking since 2004 a week ago, Vic Schaefer talked to his team about what they had done differently from the previous week.
“The answer is nothing,” Schaefer told CBS Sports. “We’ve stayed in the picture; it’s what we’ve done. We’ve just put our heads down, we’ve gone to work.”
In February, the Longhorns (29-2, 15-1 SEC) made history by beating three consecutive AP top 10 teams.
Despite struggles early in some games, Texas can adjust effectively, demonstrated by their 57-26 victory against Georgia.
“That’s an SEC team playing at home and our team held them to 26 points. That’s unheard of,” Schaefer remarked.
The Longhorns also highlight the depth of talent in their guard positions with contributions from both recent recruits and veteran players. Ultimately, Schaefer emphasizes that mindful leadership and staying focused on championship goals is key to their success.
