Lamar Jackson says that he plans to wear a bigger coat and use any heaters when the Ravens offense is on the sidelines during Sunday night’s divisional playoff game against the Buffalo Bills. The current forecast calls for single-digit temperatures at kickoff and a 40% chance of snow, indicating that the weather will impact the game.
Jackson aims to stay warm but has decided against wearing gloves despite the expected cold. He stated, “I tried (wearing gloves) in practice. I was horrible. Leave that up to Teddy Two Gloves, Teddy Bridgewater. Shout out to Teddy.”
Like Bridgewater, Jackson starred at Louisville before entering the NFL. He has played in a playoff game in Buffalo before, where the temperature was 34 degrees—a balmy experience compared to what he may face Sunday night.
As a potential three-time league MVP, Jackson has performed well in cold games this season. He threw two touchdown passes during last week’s wild-card win over the Steelers, which was played in sub-freezing conditions.
Ravens head coach John Harbaugh noted that Jackson has been lobbying for outdoor practice before their game against Pittsburgh, saying, “I’m trying to win. It doesn’t really matter. I can’t go into a game and be like, ‘It’s too cold, I can’t make things happen.’ Coach would probably send me home. I’ve got to lock in in the cold.”
While Jackson’s mindset is strong, not wearing gloves could complicate his grip on the football during the game. The weather may result in more carries for both Jackson and Derrick Henry, who combined for 267 rushing yards and two touchdowns in last week’s game.
