Canelo Alvarez is taking a cautious approach regarding a potential fight with Jake Paul, suggesting that such an event could wait until his retirement. Recently, Alvarez confirmed a multi-fight deal with Turki Alalshikh, which put a proposed matchup with Paul on hold. While he has not ruled out the possibility of facing Paul, he emphasizes it won’t be happening in the near future.
In an upcoming fight set for May 3, Alvarez will take on IBF titleholder William Scull. Paul expressed disappointment with the announcement, stating he believed Alvarez was close to finalizing their bout.
Canelo acknowledges the allure of a fight with Paul but asserts that it is not a priority at this time. He states, “I consider [Scull] to be a better opponent for me at this stage of my career. I want to keep making history; fighting Paul is more of an event rather than a sport. That can wait until I retire.”
Canelo’s remarks echo his previous statements, indicating a willingness to fight Paul only after he concludes his boxing career at a high level.
