The NHL trade deadline is less than 24 hours away, and Stanley Cup contenders are starting to load up for deep postseason runs. The Tampa Bay Lightning made their move by reuniting with shutdown forward Yanni Gourde, as well as acquiring Oliver Bjorkstrand in a trade with the Seattle Kraken.
Gourde spent the first six years of his career with the Lightning, developing into an excellent two-way center while winning the Stanley Cup twice. He was selected by the Kraken in the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft but has now returned to Tampa, bringing an elite defensive presence to the forward unit.
The Bolts also obtained Bjorkstrand, who is expected to add secondary scoring. He has reached the 20-goal mark in five of the past six seasons between his time with the Kraken and the Columbus Blue Jackets.
This trade came at a cost, as Tampa sent two first-round picks, a second-round pick, and forth-line grinder Michael Eyssimont to Seattle.
Additionally, the Florida Panthers also made headlines by acquiring Seth Jones from the Chicago Blackhawks. Jones brings substantial offensive prowess, and the Panthers are looking to bolster their lineup with all the help they can get after placing Matthew Tkachuk on LTIR.
Meanwhile, the Colorado Avalanche acquired defenseman Ryan Lindgren from the New York Rangers. Lindgren has spent his entire seven-season NHL career with the Rangers and shown a knack for playing shutdown defense.
