Coaching Changes in College Basketball: Miami and Utah Act Swiftly

As March unfolds, both Miami and Utah have made significant coaching hires in preparation for the upcoming portal season.

March is here and you better believe the carousel has started spinning. Notably, we haven’t even reached the first week without witnessing two coaching changes. Here are some of the highlights:

Major Hires:

  • Miami:
    • Out: Jim Larrañaga | In: Jai Lucas – Lucas leaves Duke to head the sinking Hurricanes, who had a disastrous 6-23 season as of last year.
  • Utah:
    • Out: Craig Smith | In: Alex Jensen – Jensen, a former Utes player, will be leaving the Mavericks to guide his alma mater.

The coaching carousel is expected to accelerate, and there are anticipated changes across multiple programs, signaling a busy offseason ahead.
