The Los Angeles Dodgers and their longtime manager Dave Roberts are nearing a contract extension, as reported by ESPN.
Alden Gonzalez mentions:
“Roberts and the Dodgers have been in serious discussions about a new deal since early February. Although there have been some gaps in negotiations, both sides expect to finalize the agreement before the Dodgers head to Japan for their season opener next Wednesday.”
At 52, Roberts is entering his ninth season with the Dodgers and has a successful track record, leading the team to a record of 851-506, nine postseason appearances, eight division titles, four pennants, and two World Series championships, one in the shortened 2020 season and another last year.
Currently, Roberts holds a .627 winning percentage, the highest among MLB managers with at least 1,000 games. He also ranks 12th in history for the most games over .500 (344 and counting) and is sixth all-time with 56 postseason victories. His contract with the Dodgers runs until the end of the 2025 season.
Heading into the 2025 season, the Dodgers are positioned to aim for consecutive championships in MLB, as they look to become the first team to win back-to-back titles since the New York Yankees in 1999-2000. Roberts also aims to join the exclusive group of managers who have won three World Series titles.
