Mavericks Update: Anthony Davis Cleared for Limited Activities
Dallas Mavericks provide updates on injured players, including Anthony Davis, who has been cleared for more activity but faces ongoing evaluation.
The Dallas Mavericks provided medical updates on Friday regarding their three injured big men — Anthony Davis, Dereck Lively II, and Daniel Gafford. While all are making progress, none of them are close to a return, leaving their futures uncertain.
Anthony Davis, who was acquired from the Los Angeles Lakers ahead of the trade deadline in a surprising deal for Luka Doncic, suffered an adductor strain just 31 minutes into his debut game against the Houston Rockets. He has been sidelined since February 8.
The team announced, “A recent re-evaluation… indicated that Davis is improving daily and has therefore been cleared for more dynamic on-court movements.” He will be reassessed on a weekly basis.
Despite the updates, reports suggest that Davis may not return this season, particularly after teammate Kyrie Irving tore his ACL earlier this week. Shams Charania commented on the situation, noting, “It’s not out of the realm of possibility that one game was the last time we’ve seen AD this season.”
Currently, the Mavericks are positioned at 32-31, standing 10th in the Western Conference, and face challenges in maintaining their playoff spot with ongoing injury woes. This situation complicates their ability to make a playoff run, with or without Davis.
Dereck Lively II has not played since mid-January due to an ankle fracture but is progressing to on-court activity and will be evaluated weekly. Daniel Gafford, who suffered a knee sprain a week after Davis’s injury, will also be monitored closely over the coming weeks.
