Anthony Davis Shows Daily Progress Amid Uncertain Return for Mavericks

Dallas Mavericks report improvements in Anthony Davis' condition but remain unsure about his return timeline.

The Dallas Mavericks announced on Friday that Anthony Davis is showing daily improvement, but did not reveal any information regarding when he might be able to play again.

A recent evaluation of Davis’ left adductor strain indicated he is making progress and has been cleared for more dynamic on-court movements.

Davis has played only in a single game since he was traded to Dallas from the Los Angeles Lakers on February 2 in exchange for five-time All-Star Luka Doncic.

The Mavericks confirmed that center Dereck Lively II, who has been sidelined with a right ankle stress fracture since January 14, is also advancing in his rehabilitation and has begun individual exercises on the court. Evaluations for both Davis and Lively will occur weekly.

After an impressive first half in a recent victory against Houston, where Davis scored 26 points along with 16 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 blocks, he experienced a setback late in the third quarter.

The Mavericks were in the fight for a play-in tournament position in the Western Conference as Davis missed yet another game, marking the 11th game he has sat out since joining the team, with 18 regular-season matches remaining.

In the meantime, the Lakers have achieved a 9-2 record following Doncic’s debut with them on February 10 and are currently enjoying an eight-game winning streak.

Additionally, Mavericks center Daniel Gafford missed his 10th consecutive game due to a right knee sprain, though the team noted he is showing signs of progress and will be assessed again in two weeks.
