Montoya Stays Resilient as Bay FC Faces NWSL Investigation

Amid allegations of a toxic work environment, Bay FC's head coach Albertin Montoya remains at the helm as investigations take place.

Bay FC’s head coach Albertin Montoya continues to lead the team despite facing serious allegations regarding a toxic work environment. The NWSL initiated an investigation into Montoya’s conduct following at least two formal complaints filed in 2024.

The investigation was spurred by claims of a workplace marked by bullying, leading to the departure of eight players from Bay FC’s inaugural season. The details of the complaints, shared by the San Francisco Chronicle, revealed that the league’s investigation began shortly after a public report on the matter.

Montoya’s position remains stable as he prepares for the upcoming season, with Bay FC officials affirming his ongoing coaching role while concurrently addressing the investigation. CEO Brady Stewart and COO Jen Millet spoke to reporters, emphasizing that the complaints stemmed primarily from communication issues rather than direct bullying.

The league’s findings and recommendations will follow, as they aim to uphold player safety and proper conduct within the club.
