Angel Reese Suggests Potential Strike by WNBA Players: 'If You Don't Meet Our Demands, We're Sitting Out'
WNBA players are considering a possible strike if their demands are not met in the upcoming CBA negotiations.
The WNBA has experienced tremendous growth in recent years, leading players to seek a larger share of the revenue. On her “Unapologetically Angel” podcast, Angel Reese hinted at a potential strike if players’ demands from the league are not met during the upcoming CBA negotiations.
After the 2024 season, the players’ union decided to opt out of the current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). The existing agreement will be in effect through the 2025 season, expiring in October.
Reese mentioned that there have been conversations regarding a strike if negotiations do not progress positively. “I need to be in the meetings, as I hear that if you don’t meet our demands, we might sit out,” Reese stated.
Dallas Wings guard DiJonai Carrington agreed, stating, “That’s definitely a possibility,” highlighting the reality of the situation.
Players aim for a pay increase as discussions unfold about the forthcoming CBA, especially since, as noted by Reese, players entering in 2026 will earn higher salaries than her even before stepping onto the court.
“New rookies coming in will be on the rookie salary again, while those the next year after will be making more than us,” Reese said, underscoring a growing concern among current players.
This isn’t the first instance of Reese discussing WNBA salaries, previously expressing on social media that her salary of $73,439 is insufficient to cover her living expenses, stating, “I hope you all understand, the WNBA doesn’t even pay my bills.”
