Eddie George: From Tennessee State to Bowling Green's New Football Coach

Legendary Ohio State running back Eddie George has been appointed as the head coach of the Bowling Green Falcons.

Bowling Green has hired Eddie George as the new head coach, marking his first venture into FBS coaching after four productive years at Tennessee State. This appointment is celebrated as George’s next step in the college coaching realm.

“I am truly excited to be the head coach at Bowling Green State University,” George expressed in a statement. “Bowling Green is a wonderful community that has embraced the school and the athletics department. We are eager to immerse ourselves in the community and help build this program to the greatness it deserves. I am overwhelmed with excitement and joy for the possibilities this opportunity holds. I’m also thrilled to be back in the great state of Ohio, where I played my college football. I look forward to meeting the team, the coaches, everyone in the athletics department and everyone in the BGSU and Bowling Green community.”

George takes the place of former coach Scot Loeffler, who has moved to a role with the Philadelphia Eagles after a six-season tenure at Bowling Green with an overall record of 27-41, highlighted by three consecutive bowl appearances from 2022-2024.

Previously at Tennessee State, George led the Tigers to a record 9-4 this past season, achieving a co-championship in the Big South-Ohio Valley Conference and a place in the FCS playoffs, improving the team’s performance each year during his leadership.

Before his coaching career, George was a prominent running back at Ohio State and for the Tennessee Titans in the NFL, where he earned accolades including the Heisman Trophy in 1995 and induction into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2011.
