Alyssa Naeher Awarded 2024 U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year After International Retirement
Alyssa Naeher, a celebrated goalkeeper, has been named the 2024 U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year, marking a notable accolade in her career as she steps away from international play.
Goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher has been awarded the 2024 U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year after a standout year. The award is based on a weighted vote from National Team coaches, players, administrators, and fans. Naeher garnered 40.8% of the votes, followed closely by Naomi Girma with 32.2%.
“This is an incredible honor to cap off what has been a very special year with this team,” said Naeher. “This team consists of a special group of players, coaches, and staff, and all year you could feel that energy and that we had the opportunity to achieve something great. I was inspired all year long by my incredible teammates; the work we put in, the commitment to the team and our goals, and all of their love and support.”
Naeher recently retired from the international scene, concluding her final matches with the senior team during friendlies against England and the Netherlands.
She was also named The Best FIFA Women’s Goalkeeper of 2024. This U.S. Soccer award has traditionally been dominated by attacking players, but in recent years it has been awarded to players in defensive roles. Naeher becomes the second goalkeeper to receive this honor, following Hope Solo in 2009. Over her career, Naeher has accumulated two World Cup titles and a gold medal, creating a legacy of historic saves.
