Rory McIlroy had a standout performance at TPC Sawgrass during the 2025 Players Championship, signing a second-round score of 68. McIlroy, who shared the lead at intervals, ended the day with a total of 9-under through 36 holes, closely trailing Min Woo Lee at the top of the leaderboard.
Despite a shaky start, McIlroy demonstrated significant improvements in his tee shots, hitting 11 fairways after struggling in the first round. “Much better. Hit it much better off the tee,” he noted after his round. The four-time major champion capitalized on birdie opportunities, turning in a remarkable 31 on the front nine.
While he struggled towards the end of the round with two bogeys, McIlroy expressed optimism for the challenges ahead, especially with gusty winds anticipated for the weekend. “I’m looking forward to it. I think it’s going to be important to flight your ball and keep it under the tree line,” he added, eager to tackle these conditions.
