Porzingis Set to Make Return Against Nets After Absence Due to Undiagnosed Illness
Celtics' Kristaps Porzingis is anticipated to return to action after missing the last eight games due to an unidentified viral illness.
Celtics’ center Kristaps Porzingis is set to return for the team’s match against the Brooklyn Nets this Saturday. This could mark Porzingis’ first game since February 26, as he has been sidelined for eight games because of an undiagnosed illness.
Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla mentioned on Saturday that should Porzingis play, it will likely be with some restrictions on his minutes.
Details surrounding Porzingis’ illness have been scarce over the past few weeks; the team has consistently reported that he is out due to a non-COVID illness without additional specifics.
On March 6, Mazzulla stated, “He’s sick. He’s coming into the facility every day trying to get shots up, sweat it out. He’s just not feeling well. He is working to get back.”
Porzingis later updated via social media on March 10 that the illness remains elusive, stating: “I have been dealing with some viral illness that we haven’t been able to fully identify yet… I am recovering and getting better, but I am still working my way back to full strength to help this team. Thanks for your support, and I’m hoping for a healthy return soon.”
Despite his absence, the Celtics managed a 6-2 record, though the two losses came against the powerful Cleveland Cavaliers and Oklahoma City Thunder. Porzingis is a pivotal player, and his return could greatly impact the Celtics’ chances in the playoffs.
