Boston's New NWSL Team to Change Name After Controversy Over Bos Nation FC

The Boston NWSL team plans to unveil a new name after negative feedback regarding its initial branding.

Boston’s NWSL franchise disclosed on Friday that it intends to amend its name, following substantial criticism of its choice of “Bos Nation FC” as the brand for its expansion team.

“Boston, you’ve waited long enough,” the club announced in a succinct statement shared on social media late Friday. “We are changing our club name.”

The name, introduced in October along with a campaign titled “Too Many Balls,” faced backlash both for its unpopularity and for the campaign’s catchphrase, which some deemed transphobic. The team promptly apologized and removed promotional content featuring this slogan but did not clarify whether they would change the name until Friday.

“The club extends our heartfelt thanks to our supporters, whose passionate voices we deeply value — not just for their unwavering support but also for their honest and critical feedback,” said Jennifer Epstein, the controlling owner, in a statement. “We could not have completed this process without your input. We aim to build a lasting legacy that makes all our fans feel welcome, connected, and proud to wear our colors and cheer our name for generations to come.”
The exact timing for the unveiling of the new name remains unconfirmed, although it’s anticipated to occur in the near future. The team plans to stick with bright green as its primary color, which has been used since its inception, showing its presence across social media and its official website.

Boston’s NWSL team is slated to make its league debut in 2026, alongside another expansion team based in Denver.
