March Madness Kicks Off with a Dramatic Finish as Alabama State Defeats Saint Francis
A thrilling conclusion in the first game of March Madness sees Alabama State achieve victory with a last-second shot.
March Madness started with an exhilarating moment as Alabama State triumphed over Saint Francis 70-68. The Hornets executed an inbounds play with only 3.4 seconds left, leading to a dramatic final shot from Amarr Knox, who snagged a deflected pass and scored the winning jumper just before time expired.
“We wanted to throw the ball in long, and we put our tallest, most athletic person to go get the ball,” Knox stated post-game. “Fortunately, the ball landed with me, I got the rebound and made the layup.”
Knox finished the match with 16 points, contributing significantly to his team’s comeback.
As a No. 16 seed, Alabama State will advance to face No. 1 seed Auburn on Thursday in Lexington, Kentucky.
