In recent years, the Pittsburgh Steelers faced significant challenges in maintaining a strong offensive presence. From 2022 to 2024, they ranked 23rd, 25th, and 23rd in terms of total yards, and 26th, 28th, and 16th for points scored. Their struggles were evident in both passing and rushing plays.
Najee Harris, who has joined the Los Angeles Chargers following his time with the Steelers, indicated that the team’s struggles weren’t entirely unexpected. He stated,
“It was just a team where we lost Ben [Roethlisberger], we lost the O-line, we just didn’t know anything on offense really, we didn’t have any identity.”
Harris detailed how the loss of experienced players impacted the team’s performance and highlighted the need for better veteran guidance, which he now hopes to find with the Chargers.
During his rookie year, with Roethlisberger still active, the Steelers’ offensive strategy was primarily centered around him. The results, however, were subpar, placing them 21st in total yards and 23rd in points.
“And I’m coming in and I’m just trying to look for people to pick their brain and it was just defensive guys…” said Harris, reflecting on his time in Pittsburgh. He expressed optimism for the upcoming season in Los Angeles, looking forward to learning from more experienced players in different offensive roles.
