Te-Hina Paopao: The Steady Force Behind South Carolina's Title Pursuit

Te-Hina Paopao's leadership and shooting skills are pivotal as the Gamecocks chase their championship dreams.

Te-Hina Paopao has emerged as a significant presence for the South Carolina women’s basketball team under coach Dawn Staley, seamlessly blending her leadership role with her shooting prowess.
While she averages 11 points per game, it’s her ability to maintain a balanced team dynamic that stands out, particularly among her teammates who also contribute to the scoring.

“I don't think you see a lot of players like me with such a high-caliber team that is able to present a calming presence for the whole team, especially offensively–and defensively, sometimes, I'm still working on that,” Paopao shared. Paopao’s transition to South Carolina from Oregon has proven fruitful. Last season, her 3-point shooting skills helped propel the Gamecocks to a perfect season and win the 2024 NCAA Tournament. She has decided to return for a fifth year, showcasing her reliability with impressive shooting percentages.
The family support she has during games is unmatched, with her brother Israel Paopao facilitating logistics for family attendance. “They probably see a few new family members at each game, so it’s really nice for them to meet my people for sure,” she said.
As the Gamecocks focus on their title hopes, Paopao remains an integral part of their journey, both as a leading player and as a mentor for her teammates.
