Mike Bibby, former NBA star, is set to take the reins as head coach of Sacramento State, marking his return to his long-term basketball home.
Former Sacramento Kings star Mike Bibby has been hired as the head coach for Sacramento State, per reports from ESPN. Bibby, 46, had a significant career with the Kings, playing from 2001 to 2008, during a prosperous time for the franchise. Recently, he worked as a TV analyst for NBC Sports California.
He lacks collegiate coaching experience but previously coached high school teams in Phoenix, including a stint at Shadow Mountain High from 2014 to 2019.
This hiring comes after the resignation of the former head coach, David Patrick, who moved to LSU. Interim coach Michael Czepil was not retained after a challenging season where the Hornets finished 7-25.
