2025 NIT Tournament: UC Irvine and Loyola Chicago Secure Semifinal Spots

UC Irvine and Loyola Chicago advanced to the semifinals in the 2025 NIT Tournament with their respective victories.

The 2025 National Invitation Tournament continued Wednesday with two exciting quarterfinal matchups. In the first game, Loyola Chicago defeated Kent State 72-62 behind 18 points and nine rebounds from center Miles Rubin. Loyola Chicago will face Chattanooga in the semifinals at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on April 1.

The final quarterfinal game of the tournament showcased a thrilling finish between No. 1 seed UC Irvine and UAB, with the Anteaters advancing through an 81-77 overtime victory led by Devin Tillis, who scored 22 points. North Texas will face UC Irvine in the NIT semifinals, where Coach Russ Hodge will depart post-season to join West Virginia.

On Tuesday, No. 2 seed North Texas and Chattanooga both accomplished dramatic upsets over No. 4 seed Oklahoma State and No. 3 seed Bradley, respectively. North Texas triumphed over Oklahoma State 61-59 with 15 points from guard Atin Wright, avoiding a late surge from the Sooners.

Oklahoma State was the final power-conference team remaining in this year’s NIT.
