Ex-NFL Star LeShon Johnson Faces Serious Charges for Dog Fighting Operations

LeShon Johnson, a former NFL player, is charged with running extensive dog-fighting operations that led to the seizure of nearly 200 animals.

The U.S. Department of Justice announced that LeShon Johnson, a former NFL running back, is facing federal charges for operating a large-scale dog-fighting ring. Nearly 200 dogs were seized last October as part of the operation under the Animal Welfare Act.

Johnson, who played five seasons in the NFL, primarily with the Arizona Cardinals, is accused of breeding and trafficking ‘pit bull-type’ dogs for fighting purposes. The operation, known as ‘Mal Kant Kennels,’ allegedly ran in two Oklahoma towns, breeding dogs from champions to create future competitors.

Quote from Christopher Wilson: “Dog fighting is a cruel, blood-thirsty venture, not a legitimate business or sporting activity.”
Translation: Dog fighting is an inhumane and brutal activity, not a legitimate business or sport.

If convicted, Johnson faces up to five years in prison and fines for each charge. His previous animal fighting conviction in 2004 resulted in a five-year deferred sentence.
