The NFL’s owners have voted to modify the flex-scheduling rules for Thursday night games starting in 2025.
The updated rules will allow flexing a Thursday night game with only 21 days’ notice, offering the league more time to make scheduling decisions. Previously, flexible scheduling could only occur 28 days in advance and only during specific weeks toward the end of the season.
This change was approved during the NFL’s annual league meeting in Florida. To date, only one game has been flexed to a Thursday night, highlighting the rarity of such changes until now.
If the new rules had been in effect last season, the league would have had an easier time adjusting schedules based on fan engagement and team performances.
