U.S. women’s national team star Trinity Rodman has shared her ongoing struggle with back problems that have plagued her for years, stating, “I don’t believe my back will ever fully heal.”
Rodman made her first start of the 2025 season with the Washington Spirit in a 2-0 victory over Bay FC, returning after a lengthy hiatus due to her back issues, which have flared up since her debut season in 2021.
She explained, “It’s not one specific thing, it’s just the way that my back is structured. It’s more about management instead of a complete fix. I’ve managed it well, but I can’t return to how I was during my rookie year.”
Rodman’s persistent injuries have often sidelined her during crucial times, including last year’s playoffs. She’ll now aim to contribute to the USWNT, with two matches scheduled against Brazil in April as they prepare for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
Head Coach Emma Hayes noted the importance of carefully managing Rodman’s return due to her sustained injury, acknowledging, “We’re happy to have her back, but we must be cautious as she continues to recover. We cannot expect her to be at her best immediately.”
