The 2025 Augusta National Women’s Amateur commenced at Champions Retreat where the world’s top female amateurs began their quest for a coveted spot in the final round at Augusta National Golf Club. Megha Ganne emerged as the early frontrunner after shooting an astounding 63, the lowest round ever recorded in the tournament’s history.
Ganne capitalized on the favorable scoring conditions, besting the previous record of 65 set by Rose Zhang in 2023. Despite this incredible performance, Ganne faces stiff competition from reigning champion Lottie Woad, who finished her round at 65 and is just two strokes behind.
“I think it was just a really good day,” Ganne remarked. “This is my career low in a golf tournament, so I had a feeling I was going to go low today, but not this low.”
Ganne played flawlessly with no bogeys, recording seven birdies and an eagle to secure her lead heading into the next round.
The cut line for the tournament looks even more favorable, with expectations that it might be established under par due to numerous low scores resulting from the lack of wind and soft course conditions. Following her historic round, interest amplifies as players prepare for the second round where going low will be crucial to keep pace with Ganne and Woad.
