The U.S. is poised to co-host the Women’s World Cup in 2031 alongside other North American nations, while the subsequent edition will occur in the U.K. in 2035. FIFA confirmed that these are the only bids for hosting rights for both tournaments.
FIFA’s deadline to submit hosting bids is April 5, with no other countries showing significant interest. Any nations that submit on that date will have until May 5 to finalize their bids with the necessary agreements.
U.S. Soccer previously aimed to host the 2027 Women’s World Cup but decided to refocus on 2031. Although Mexico initially joined the bidding, there is potential for other Concacaf nations to host some matches in 2031 as FIFA finalizes the tournament’s structure.
“We are excited about the opportunity to co-host the 2031 FIFA Women’s World Cup and will collaborate with our Concacaf partners to create a tournament that leaves a lasting legacy,” U.S. Soccer stated. They intend to provide further details and their full visión for the event soon.
By 2031, the U.S. will have experience from hosting two men’s World Cups, in 1994 and 2026.
The 2035 Women’s World Cup will be a joint effort by England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, none of which have previously hosted a Women’s World Cup. England has hosted a men’s World Cup, with notable success in 1966. The announcement follows England’s successful hosting of the 2022 Women’s Euro, setting new attendance records.
“We are honored to be the sole bidder for the Women’s World Cup 2035. This joint effort with our home nations will be very special. We must begin preparations to ensure our bid is the most competitive by the end of the year,” said England FA CEO Mark Bullingham.
FIFA is expected to formally announce the tournament hosts in the second quarter of 2026.
