Tyrese Maxey of the Sixers to miss the entire season due to a finger injury
Philadelphia guard Tyrese Maxey is sidelined for the remainder of the season following a finger injury, as reported by ESPN.
Philadelphia guard Tyrese Maxey will miss the rest of the season due to a finger injury, according to ESPN. Maxey has not played since March 3 because of a lower back sprain and what the team termed a sprained finger on his right hand. ESPN described it as a “finger tendon injury.”
Before the Sixers’ game against the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday, Coach Nurse did not confirm the report, stating:
“He’s just out for this evening.”
Nurse added:
“He did have another workout, and I think I mentioned before, the first one didn’t go that great. He had another one. He did receive more imaging as well. But our medical team has just told me he’s out for tonight.”
When asked directly if the ESPN report is wrong, Nurse said:
“I don’t know. I’m just telling you what they told me: that he’s out for this evening.”
In the 52 games Maxey has played this season, his statistics are comparable to last year’s. He averages 26.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 1.8 steals in a league-high 37.7 minutes per game, with a usage rate of 29.3% and a true shooting percentage of 56.2%. Despite struggling from 3-point range, he has shown improvement in midrange shooting and defensively.
With Maxey sidelined, the Sixers continue to struggle. They currently sit at 23-53, losing nine games in a row and 24 of their last 27. This season, Maxey shared the court with teammate Embiid for only 389 minutes across 16 games. If Maxey is out for the season, he joins co-stars Embiid and Jared McCain on the sidelines, as the team faces adversity moving forward.
