Arsenal Center-Back Gabriel to Miss Remainder of Season Due to Injury: What’s Next for the Gunners Against Real Madrid?

A major injury to Arsenal's defense raises concerns ahead of the Champions League quarterfinal against Real Madrid.

A significant hamstring injury incurred during the recent game against Fulham will prevent Arsenal’s center-back Gabriel from participating for the remainder of the season.

The Brazilian international, recognized as one of the key players for Arsenal in the 2024-25 season, was forced to leave the pitch in the first half of the match. The injury’s severity is confirmed, marking him as the third player from the Arsenal roster to undergo hamstring surgery this season. Other notable absences include Bukayo Saka, who has recently returned from his own muscle-related troubles, and Kai Havertz, who has been sidelined since February due to a surgery that will keep him out for the season.

Arsenal has expressed their commitment to supporting Gabriel during his recovery, aiming to prepare him for the next season. In an official statement, they noted, “Gabi will undergo a surgical repair procedure to his hamstring soon and will commence his rehabilitation, focusing on being fit for the start of the new season.”

As the Gunners head into the upcoming Champions League quarterfinal against Real Madrid, they face further defensive challenges. Alongside Gabriel, Riccardo Calafiori is expected to miss critical upcoming matches due to a knee injury suffered during international play, and Ben White is experiencing knee discomfort that has restricted his playing time significantly.

Without Gabriel and possibly Timber, the team might have to reposition Thomas Partey to right-back and pair Jakub Kiwior with William Saliba in central defense, preparing to combat the threats posed by Real Madrid’s star players, including Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior.
